CHAIRMAN'S ADDRESS
The idea of a "Radiothon" was first raised with a colleague in 2006 when we were discussing how to raise money for Variety, the children"s charity to help children in need. The idea continued to grow with discussion on how we could involve our local football clubs and players using the media as the appeal's vehicle.
The idea became a reality when the Variety Kickin4Kids Radiothon presented by Yellow Corporation raised $175,000 in its inaugural year in 2007.
All funds raised have helped hundreds of kids gain mobility, freedom, independence and the chance to join in the life of their community through the provision of wheelchairs, leg splints, standing frames, vehicle conversions and wheelchair hoists.
Once again, the Crows and the Power have passionately embraced the idea with Radiothon Ambassadors Andrew McLeod and Troy Chaplin joined by Adelaide's leading sports radio station, FIVEaa, along with a number of supporting businesses in Adelaide.
For 2008, we are introducing a new initiative which will run in conjunction with the Radiothon, the Variety SANFL Schools Kickathon.
Students from schools in South Australia are being invited to participate in a "kick to kick" where a football is kicked between teams of two for a two minute period. Students will seek sponsorship through their networks with each successful kick raising even more money for children in need. This is a wonderful concept which not only promotes physical wellbeing, but instills a sense of philanthropy in our future generations.
In addition to funds received from the Radiothon, in 2007, Variety SA granted 67 appeals totaling $246,255 to organisations and individuals through its Freedom program, one of six support programs provided by Variety.
This year, we need your help to raise our Radiothon target of $200,000.
I ask you to join me in supporting the 2008 Variety Kickin4Kids Radiothon to raise much needed funds to inspire hope and enrich the lives of children in need in South Australia.
Kickin4Kids because you can!

"As an AFL player I am in a privileged position where I can do something to help and that can mean little things like putting a smile on a child's face. Making their day makes my day as well and I do it because I enjoy it and it has certainly made me a better person. I encourage everyone to join me and get behind this fantastic South Australian cause! Let's make sure this year's Radiothon raises even more funds for children in need across our wonderful State".
